Position: Winemaker
Location: Mt. Beautiful Winery, North Canterbury (9km north of Cheviot)
Mt. Beautiful is a distinguished, family-owned winery situated in the heart of North Canterbury. Since establishing our state-of-the-art winery in 2015, we have consistently crafted exceptional wines sourced from our 80 hectares of estate vineyards. In 2026, we anticipate processing approximately 750 tonnes of premium fruit, including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay.
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Winemaker to oversee and manage the winery operations while collaborating closely with our Consulting Winemaker, Vineyard Manager, Viticultural Consultant, and General Manager. This role presents a unique opportunity to work with a highly capable team and contribute to the production of distinctive, high-quality wines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day winery operations, including staff supervision, workflow planning, and adherence to production schedules.
- Collaborate closely with the Consulting Winemaker to ensure quality standards are met across all wine styles.
- Execute winemaking processes, from grape intake to bottling, with a focus on quality and precision.
- Conduct winery analysis and maintain accurate records in winery management software.
- Maintain and manage winery equipment with a strong mechanical aptitude and practical approach.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum of three years of full-time cellar experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Winemaking or Oenology.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team and independently, with excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Strong palate and expertise in producing a variety of wine styles.
- Practical knowledge of winery processes and a hands-on, solution-focused approach.
- Proficiency in winery management software and record-keeping practices.
- Flexibility to work extended hours during the harvest season.
