About us
The Hawke’s Bay Wine Company is a custom crush facility based in urban Napier, making premium and ultra-premium wine for a range of clients from the very largest wineries in New Zealand through to very small boutique producers. This mix ensures a constant variety of work and gives exposure to many different wines, wine styles and winemaking philosophies.
Over the last couple of years, we’ve brought together a team of people who have the right stuff to help us make the wines our clients want to make. They’re best described as curious, positive, intuitive, hard-working and fun to be around.
About the role
- The Cellar Hand role is a full-time, permanent position, based at our winery in Thames Street.
- Reporting to the Winemakers, key responsibilities will include:
- Participate in all winery operations, from fruit receival during harvest through to despatch of finished wine.
- Performing general winery maintenance tasks including cleaning, maintaining equipment, water blasting, and waste management as required.
- Maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to standard operating procedures with a proactive, hardworking attitude.
- Operating pumps, forklifts and other heavy machinery safely and effectively.
- Being available for shift work, extended hours and weekend work during the harvest period.
- Assisting with training new vintage staff and potentially supervise shifts.
About you
- You'll have some winery experience, consistent attention to detail, be able to problem solve, have excellent communication skills and thrive being part of a small team.
- Previous winery experience - we will also provide extensive training and support.
- A reliable team player with a can-do attitude and keen attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and be open to learning, sharing ideas, and growing within the team.
- Health & Safety minded looking after yourself and others by following all safety procedures, using proper PPE, incident reporting, etc
- A reasonable level of fitness.
- A current full driver’s license. Forklift training will be provided if necessary.
