We are seeking a passionate and experienced Restaurant Manager to lead our front-of-house team and kitchen team at Rothko Restaurant. Rothko Restaurant is located within the picturesque Sculptureum, with a beautiful vineyard backdrop, which offers a pristine, out-of-this-world art gallery experience to both local and international guests from all over the world. Our head chefs revolutionise the way in which guests are exposed to the true art, skill and craftsmanship that can be expressed through cooking, even matching the breath-taking artwork contained within the Scupltureum. Our newly revamped dining concept focuses on shared dining experiences with Filipino and Asian-inspired Flavours, highlighting the finest New Zealand produce, with a strong emphasis on woodfire cooking, fermentation and beverage pairing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Team Management: Lead, train, and inspire the front-of-house and kitchen teams to consistently deliver outstanding service and uphold high standards.

• Inventory Management: Being responsible for ordering, purchasing, and storekeeping of all stock and supplies whilst ensuring the quality of ingredients.

• Guest Experience: Greet customers with warmth and personable manner while Ensuring memorable dining experiences, anticipating customer needs and delivering exceptional service.

• Wine & Beverage Expertise: Provide expert wine recommendations, maintain wine inventory, and ensure seamless pairing of food and beverages.

• Operations: Oversee daily restaurant operations, including bookings/reservations, strategize and organise special events staff scheduling and delegating duties and assist in taking orders when needed.

• Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Chef to plan menus, and estimate labour and cost and pricing of food items to ensure smooth coordination between the kitchen and front-of-house.

• Compliance: Ensure the restaurant and operations are compliant with the occupational health and safety standards.

• Staff Presentation, Performance and Training: Ensure that all staff maintain appropriate grooming and presentation standards, while also monitoring their performance to meet satisfactory levels. Provide training and support to underperforming or new staff members. 

• Staff Recruitment:  Identify staffing needs in the restaurant and recruit suitable team members.

• Financial Management: Manage budgets, control costs, and drive revenue through efficient operations and strategic planning.

• Record Keeping: Keep track of inventory levels and fiscal transactions. 

What We Offer:

• Competitive Salary: $80,000 - $85,000 per annum (depending on experience).

 Desired Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 2 years experience in a managerial role in the hospitality/food and beverage industry

• Strong knowledge of wines, including wine service and food pairings

• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor a team

• A passion for hospitality, food, wine, and guest satisfaction

• Strong operational and financial management skills

• Manager’s certificate for sale and supply of alcohol 

• Full driver’s licence
