Role Purpose A unique hybrid role that encompasses many aspects of both vineyard and winery operations of a premium wine business. Approximately 70% vineyard and 30% winery across the year.
This role is a full-time, permanent position which will require additional hours during peak times like vintage.
About Monte Christo Winery is one of Central Otago’s newest and most exciting wineries based in Clyde. We currently farm 5 vineyards spread across 3 different subregions of Central Otago with a strong focus on organic viticulture and low-intervention winemaking. Our vineyards are a mix of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling and are farmed under BioGro certification standards, totalling 22 hectares.
Duties and Responsibilities
Vineyard –
· Working closely with the Viticulturist in collecting and analysing key vine data such as yield estimates, irrigation management, disease monitoring, cover cropping and vineyard trials.
· Working amongst the vineyard team ensuring all general vineyard activities are carried out to a high standard and efficiency.
· Potential tractor work
· Maintain a safe working environment with a strong focus on Health and Safety
Winery –
· During vintage: Full time in the winery performing all cellar operations
· Outside of vintage: Working closely with the winemaker as needed with finishing wines as well as other general cellar operations
· Maintain a safe working environment with a strong focus on Health and Safety
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
· Viticulture and Winemaking qualifications advantageous but not essential.
· 3 years vine/wine production experience.
· Great organisational and time management skills with attention to detail.
· Good team player
· Physically fit and practically mannered.
· Valid driver’s licence and forklift licence desirable.
· Positive and enthusiastic about the wine industry with an interest in learning and growing within the role.
