Vineyard Operations:
Monitor vineyard for pest and disease and take appropriate action.
Monitor soil moisture, irrigation sufficiency and scheduling, alert Manager to any issues re irrigation and fix any issues in relation to irrigation lines and supply promptly.
Do crop estimates, data collection of vine metrics, weighing clusters and data recording.
Provide any required support for organic certification.
Perform regular vineyard work eg mowing, weeding, pruning, tying, training, suckering, leafing, thinning, harvesting, planting etc.
Complete specific viticulture related projects as required.
Cellar Door Operations:
Manage and care for vineyard animals eg ensure chickens are fed, monitored, move relevant mobile housing of chickens. Move cows when required and ensure appropriate access to water, fee and salt. Monitor health of vineyard animals.
Provide support to Cellar Door gardens/orchard and the Cellar Door gardener eg mowing, spraying, weeding, planting, netting, where required. Assist in laying irrigation lines for Cellar Door gardens/orchard and repair/maintain irrigation where required.
Provide overall support to Cellar Door gardens/orchard where required.
Skills and Experience Required
Knowledge and understanding of viticulture and horticulture experience, including relevant viticulture degree/diploma.
2 years minimum experience working in viticulture, including experience in monitoring pests and diseases, and irrigation issues. Ability to identify signs of vine stress essential.
Experienced in irrigation system installation, repairs and maintenance.
Experienced tractor driver.
Able to work without supervision and available for flexible hours depending on seasonal requirements.
Has initiative and a problem-solving approach to work.
Experience with frost fighting an asset.
Team player.
Attention to detail and able to collect data and write vineyard related reports.
